The Cost
It wasn’t always like this, between you and me
Though I’d never want what used to be
I did things to you, you abandoned me
I sometimes cry over what we lost
We had to pay the price,
But we never count the cost
Troubled waters run so deep
I think these things when I cannot sleep
The kids we raised, the family Jeep
We cannot replace what we’ve lost
But we paid a high price,
And never count the cost
Looking back, I can see it clear
Cherished things not held dear
Family traditions disappeared
I can hardly fathom all we’ve lost
Still paying the price,
But we never count the cost
